Advocacy for, and study on, the export potential of fresh vegetables

The project began in April 2016. It required conducting a quick study of major regional vegetable markets to obtain a picture of the supply of and demand for fresh vegetables in Nepal and international markets, mainly India. The study will identify the major customs/checkpoints that are feasible for vegetable export and highlight the trade practices including business process analysis, key actors and players, time, levies, fees and documentation requirements. The study will also identify the export requirements (for traders, exporters, wholesalers and business houses). It will assess the import processes and practices in exploring prospective markets for fresh vegetables. This will also help capture the vegetable export constraints in different markets which can be addressed through short-term interventions and policy reforms. The project was supported by Adam Smith International.
