Resilience of Nepa’s energy infrastructure
Mr. Pushpa Raj Acharya, SAWTEE Media Fellow 2024, delves into the resilience of Nepal’s energy infrastructure, examining the nation’s heavy reliance on hydropower, vulnerabilities to climate change, and energy import dependencies.
Mr. Rabi Shanker Sainju, Vice Chairperson of SAWTEE, emphasizes the importance of integrating local development plans with hydropower production. He states, "Hydropower projects often develop essential infrastructure such as roads, community schools, electrification, and water supply. However, these efforts must be complemented by livelihood support programmes, including skill development for income-generating activities, to effectively transform the living standards of local communities."
