Hon’ble Mr. Abdul Latheef Mohamed

Minister of State for Economic Development, Maldives

Mr. Abdul Latheef Mohamed is Minister of State for Economic Development, Government of Maldives. Prior to his current appointment in 2014, he has held various key positions in the transport sector.
He is a qualified Master Mariner from Singapore. He has a Master Degree in Business Administration from Malaysia along with an advanced Diploma in Maritime Transportation from Singapore.
He has earned a number of certifications and trainings – BTEC Certification of Achievement, GMDSS General Operator’s Certificate and Practical Gas Firefighting Certificate from U.K. In addition, he has participated in courses on Navigation Control, Advanced Firefighting, Medical Care on Board Ship and COP in Survival Craft and Rescue Boat from Singapore.
Mr. Mohamed served as Project Director in developing the Maritime Transport Master Plan of Maldives 2012 implemented by Asian Development Bank. He has lead delegations in, among others, the general assembly of International Maritime Organization in 2013, IMO General Assembly 2015, and International Labor Conference in 2014, 2016 and 2017.
He is also the author of publications such as Kandumatheegai Salaamathun Dhirithibun (Survival at Sea) and Boat Faharuge Alifaan Nivvun (Fire Fighting Aboard Ships). He has also translated the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at sea, 1972 to the official Maldivian Language (Dhivehi).
