Mr. Shafqat Munir Ahmad

President, JDHR, Pakistan

Mr. Shafqat Munir is a senior journalist, researcher and a development professional. He is the founder editor of Pakistan’s wire service ‘Infochange News and Features Network’ and is also the President of the country’s leading media think tank ‘Journalists for Democracy and Human Rights (JDHR). Mr. Munir is Associate Research Fellow at the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) and heads the Resilient Development Programme.

Mr. Munir had worked for Oxfam GB as Humanitarian Policy Advisor for Asia and with the UNDP/UNMC Regional Centre Bangkok as Programme Specialist South Asia. He was Regional Media and Communications Lead, Actionaid, Asia. He has been involved at the policy level during disasters and emergencies—the 2004 Tsunami, the 2005 Pakistan earthquake, Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar, Cyclone Hayan in the Philippines and the 2015 earthquake in Nepal. He had worked with the SAARC Secretariat and has been country focal persons on disaster management. Mr. Munir was part of the editorial team in ‘The News’, Pakistan’s leading English Daily.

He is a visiting Faculty at the Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad and Pakistan’s Information Services Academy. He is a PhD scholar at Pakistan’s leading state university ‘Quaid-e-Azam’ University, Islamabad.
