Ms. Swairee Rupasinghe

National Project Coordinator, ILO Country Office for Sri Lanka and the Maldives

Ms. Swairee Rupasinghe has 18 years of professional experience in the development sector including 12 years in the UN system (UNHABITAT, UNDP and ILO) and 6 years in other international development organizations and foundations such as ActionAid International and Asian Disaster Preparedness Center.
She has worked in South Asian & South East Asian countries—Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Taiwan and Vietnam—at policy and program levels, building strong networks and alliances on sustainable urban governance, combatting trafficking and forced labour, labour migration, sexual and gender based violence prevention, women’s rights promotion, disaster risk reduction, response and recovery as well as conflict recovery.
As National Project Coordinator—Labour Migration at the ILO—she manages the project on effectively implementing Sri Lanka’s National Labour Migration Policy, since 2012, currently in its third phase. She was Process Manager for the development of the Sub-Policy and National Action Plan on Return and Reintegration of Migrant Workers (2015) and currently is managing the process of reviewing and updating the National Policy on Labour Migration.
Swairee holds a Master of Science in Environmental Science from the University of Colombo and a Bachelor of Science (with honors) from the University of Sussex, Brighton, UK where she majored in Environmental Science with a minor in Development Studies.
